Washington Redskins legend and Super Bowl XXII MVP Doug Williams has received a one-year contract extension to stay in his current role with the team according to 106.7 The Fan.
Williams is currently the Senior VP of Player Personnel. Williams was a major part of the Dwayne Haskins selection during the 2019 NFL Draft.
Williams’ contract extension is called a “rollover” by NFL front offices. It’s typical procedure in every front office and keeps front office staff in their position for at least another year.
Williams was entering the final year of his contract after signing on June 13, 2017. The rollover will now last until 2021 and if the Redskins are satisfied with Williams’ work then they’ll likely extend him for another year.
Bruce Allen has gone on the record to say that he’s a big fan of Williams’ work and says that Williams has an “extraordinarily special person with a good scouting eye.”
Williams role is pretty undefined but it’s well known that he’s involved in both college and pro scouting departments. He mainly gives advice to the decision makers in the front office before free agency and the draft.
