The Wizards have applied for the Disabled Player Exception for John Wall and expect Wall to miss the entire 2019-2020 season.
If the application is granted, the Wizards will be able to use the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception to use to either sign, trade for a player, or make a waiver claim. That number this season is $9.258 million.
Wall continues to make big strides in his recovery from his torn achilles and is only two weeks away from jogging according to NBC Sports Washington’s Chase Hughes. Wall’s timetable is reportedly a year from when he fell in his home and tore his achilles in February but it’s likely the Wizards hold him out until the 2020-2021 season.
In response to Wall’s injury, the Wizards have signed point guards Ish Smith and Isaiah Thomas to one-year deals as continues to rehab.
In 32 games last season Wall averaged 20.7 points and 8.7 assists per game.
